Guy Fawkes, Fireworks and Illuminated Carnivals (south-west region)

Mainly in Somerset but taking in large parts of Devon, Dorset, Glocs and Wilts - there is a centuries-old tradition of Illuminated Carnivals.

Mainly due to extensive community involvement these events have grown over the years and now include fireworks in the celebrations.

The degree of skill, effort and organisation which goes into creating these magnificent shows is most impressive and many now stage events well outside of the Guy Fawkes season either as a complement to, or as a fund raiser for the main event.

These carnivals are organised by local clubs or committees independently. The illuminated floats travel to different Carnivals, visiting other events throughout the season.

Cavaliers Carnival Club

The Carnival Club was born back in 1937, making it the second oldest in current existence, based at the Coronation Inn. They had the glorious name of 'Coronoddies Carnival Club'. In 1946 due to a move to the Golden Lion the name changed to 'The Golden Lion Carnival Club'. The current name dates from 1996 with a move to The New Market Hotel . The club shares a home with Wilts Carnival Club and New Market Carnival Club.
